After their involvement in the Third Battle of Ypres in August, 1917, 56th Division left Flanders and headed south to hold the line to the south of Arras, where things were much quieter. On 4th September, the 12th London battalion of 168 Brigade, took over the front line trenches at Lagnicourt and the battalion diary recorded that their first casualty, caused by a 77m gun, occurred on 6th September in the left front company. Alfred Buck died from wounds on this day. |
